A Message from President Colin S. Diver

Dear Friend,

As members of Reed College’s centennial generation, we inherit a great tradition and an even greater responsibility.

A handful of visionaries founded Reed just 100 years ago. They embodied in their creation radical ideals — a devotion to the pure spirit of inquiry, genuine intellectual community, and the principle of honor. Those ideals still animate the college today, thanks to the sacrifices and dedication of four generations of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends.

As Reed’s centennial beckons, this generation has occasion to reflect on what it can do to preserve that legacy and bequeath it to future generations. In that spirit, I invite you to participate in the Centennial Campaign for Reed College. As we explain in the following pages, the Centennial Campaign gives everyone who loves Reed an opportunity to invest in the qualities that have made it the very epitome of liberal educational practice and ideals. Every aspect of the Centennial Campaign — from endowed scholarships to support of teaching and research to funding for new facilities — is designed to serve and strengthen the central historic mission of the college. And through that support, every aspect of the campaign is designed to keep alive the ideals that have become synonymous with Reed College.

I hope you will join us.
